The towns of Columbus, Saluda, and Tryon are quaint little mountain towns that each have their own distinct personality. Saluda, especially, has that independent mountain getaway feel. The Green River to the north of the area is home to the most extreme whitewater kayaking in the state and attracts brave souls from all over the country. The waterfalls here are surprisingly wonderful considering these falls lie at the foot of the mountains rather than higher up into the Appalachians.
