Shacktown Falls

Height: 10 feet
Trail Type: Gravel
Hike Distance: Roadside View
Difficulty: 1
Beauty: 2

Overview:

Shacktown Falls is one of those places you go to check out when you’re bored and mark it off your list to say you’ve been. It’s fairly unimpressive in terms of height, but the width and flow of the creek is pretty nice.

Directions:

From Winston-Salem, take US 421 west to exit 253. Turn right and go to the end of the road. Turn left onto Shacktown Road and then take the first right onto Styers Mill Road. There will be a pretty large pullout on the left just before the bridge that crosses the creek.

Hike Description:

You can walk down to the base of the falls pretty easily, but there isn’t much there. Everything I had read about the area was that it was full of trash and pretty run down. When I visited, the area was clean, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it packed with people on a warmer day.
