Whirlpool Canyon Falls

Height: 30 feet
Trail Type: Asphalt and dirt
Hike Distance: A few dozen yards
Difficulty: 1
Beauty: 5

Overview:

Whirlpool Canyon Falls is part of the Seven Tubs Nature Area outside of Wilkes-Barre, PA. The entire park is a great place to check out, and there are potentially other waterfalls here that aren’t listed. This falls, however, is really neat just in how the stream has carved such a deep and narrow gorge into the rock before fanning out at the bottom and emptying into the larger Laurel Run.

Directions:

From exit 170A off of Interstate 81 in Wilkes-Barre, head south on PA 15 for 1.5 miles and turn right onto Bear Creek Blvd. Drive down the hill to the parking area on the right.

Hike Description:

The hike starts on the left side and follows a paved path up to a wooden footbridge. The falls are on the left and flow beneath the bridge. Follow the steep trail on the right side of the creek to explore the creek further, or walk down the stone steps on the right side to see the creek empty into Laurel Run.
