Sandstone Falls

Sandstone Falls

Height: 15 feet
Trail Type: Wood, rock, and dirt
Hike Distance: 1/2 mile round trip
Difficulty: 2
Beauty: 7

Overview:

Sandstone Falls certainly isn’t the tallest waterfall, but it’s one of the widest. Some estimates show the New River is as wide as 1,500 feet at the falls. That, combined with the mountains in along the gorge, makes this a wonderful sight.

Directions:

From the intersection of highways 3 and 20 in Hinton, WV, drive a little under a mile and continue straight on New River Road while highway 20 breaks off into Hinton. Continue along the river for a little over 8 miles to the parking area on the right.

Hike Description:

The trail starts out as a boardwalk giving you various views of the falls and the river. When the boardwalk ends, you can make your own trail and go out onto the small island as far as you can to get as close as you can to the falls.
