Buttermilk Falls

Height: 46 feet
Trail Type: Dirt and Wood
Hike Distance: 0.5 mile round trip
Difficulty: 3
Beauty: 5

Overview:

It’s always great when park services go out of their way to get you access to a waterfall. However, you can get a little too ambitious, and Buttermilk Falls is a great example of this. If you like taking pictures of waterfalls, this one isn’t too photogenic thanks to all the stairs and railing in the way. However, those items make for a great personal experience.

Directions:

From Altoona, take Exit 28 from Interstate 99 to US 22 West. Drive 38 miles and turn left onto Clay Pike Road. After 1.5 miles, bear left on Valley Brook Road. The parking area is at the end of the road.

Hike Description:

From the parking area, the trail descends the ridge and comes quickly to a viewing deck above the falls. Continue past the gate and cross the new wooden footbridge and down several steps to the falls.
