White Oak Falls

Height: 30 feet
Trail Type: Dirt and rock
Hike Distance: A few yards
Difficulty: 1
Beauty: 2

Overview:

White Oak Falls is nestled at the base of Mount Mitchell. This area has a lot of potential, but I think a lot of the homeowners in the area want to keep it hidden. White Oak Falls tumbles roughly 30 feet in a few different sections, but the entire thing is hard to see up close thanks to no real trail and a ton of rhododendron along the creek bank. If you’re the adventurous type, you could probably wade and bushwhack your way to a good view, but otherwise it’s not worth it.

Directions:

From the intersection of NC 80 and the Blue Ridge Parkway, head north on NC 80 for 7.5 miles and turn left on White Oak Road. Drive another 0.6 miles and turn left onto White Oak Creek Road. The falls are at the end of the road and visible from the end.
