Hooker Falls

Height: 14 feet
Trail Type: Gravel
Hike Distance: 0.6 miles round trip
Difficulty: 2
Beauty: 6

Overview:

Hooker Falls isn’t impressive in terms of height, but the Little River at this point in its journey is pretty wide, which makes for a nice setting. Although there’s an overlook at the top of the falls, there’s an even better view a few yards down the trail that allows you to get closer to the base and in front of the falls. The whole area also has a pretty big beach, and I imagine the entire area is full of people hanging out and swimming in the river when the weather is warm.

Directions:

From the intersection of US 64 and US 276 in Brevard, head east on US 64 for about 3.5 miles and turn right onto Crab Creek Road in the community of Penrose. Drive another 4.3 miles and turn right onto DuPont Road. When you enter forest property, the road changes to Staton Road. The parking area for the falls is 3 miles down on the right.

Hike Description:

The trail starts at the information kiosk and starts out flat and follows the river. There are several side paths cut out for fisherman, but the main trail is wide enough that you won’t get lost. Just before the falls, the trail ascends and then falls off somewhat steeply on its way down to the riverbank.
